Do you love nature and the great outdoors? Our vast land is covered with wild and majestic landscapes that energize and bring us back to nature. Does the idea of camping or an afternoon of hiking sound like a good idea? Here’s our list of six National Parks to enjoy as part of your road trip!
Forillon National Park
Located on Quebec’s Gaspé Peninsula, this park invites you to reconnect with nature. Whether you’re near the ocean, climbing a cliff or enjoying the forest, you will love this destination especially for the wildlife: notably the seals and whales when you take a cruise. Be sure to pay extra caution to the bears who call the forest home. Outdoor activities include biking and walking but you can also visit historic sites such as a former general store and an authentic Second World War battery.
La Mauricie National Park
With 150 lakes, the best way to experience this park is on the water, in a canoe or boat. Once on the water, you can witness the power of nature: beautiful forests, stunning cliffs, a host of aquatic wildlife and seabirds that dive deep into the water in search of food. You're a swimmer? After walking through a few kilometers of forest, you can cool off in the waters of the Waber Falls. Camping, hiking and discovery activities await you inside these 536 km2of Quebec.
Thousand Islands National Park
An ideal place to contemplate the stars and observe rare species of turtles (!), Canada’s smallest national park is accessible only by boat; adding to its charm. These 19 islands located in Ontario are perfect for camping and calm rides along the water. We recommend booking your spot in advance but if you’re feeling adventurous you can always hope for a last minute availability. First come, first served!
Thousand Islands National Park
Pukaskwa National Park
You will find Pukaskwa National Park just north of Sudbury, Ontario. Right on the shores of Lake Superior, this park, with its sandy beaches, teeming rivers and wetland landscapes, is a far cry from our hectic way of life. We discover the territory of the Anishinaabe First Nations, take advantage of kayak streams and connect to the rich and diverse local wildlife. Disconnection guaranteed!
Kouchibouguac National Park
If you go to New Brunswick, specifically the Acadian coast, Kouchibouguac National Park is definitely worth discovering! Still unknown to many, this park with its several beaches is perfect for swimmers looking to take a relaxing dip in its warm waters. Sport enthusiasts will appreciate the Major Kollock bike trail where you can see fields of flowers and ancient forests. Passionate about photography? The park serves up beautiful vistas of colourful salt marshes and sweeping sand dunes, a wonderful amalgam of nature at its finest.
Fundy National Park
A must in the region! This natural destination in New Brunswick, about 90 km southwest of Moncton, is best known for having the highest tides in the world, averaging about 12 metres. At low tide you will take advantage of the seabed which is only momentarily available. In addition to these impressive water fluctuations, enjoy 120 kilometres of walking trails that include waterfalls and exceptional natural landscapes. Whether you chose to stay a few days (amenities included) or you come for a single day for a picnic, you’ll be sure to enjoy yourself!
Well-kept secret
Psst! There's a well-kept secret in Ontario with sandy beaches and crystal clear blue water will remind you of your last trip to Cuba; welcome to Sandbanks Provincial Park. Shallow waters, ideal for swimming and trails through the sand dunes make this park a must!
