Toasty Tips to Keep Your Home Warm

No matter how frightful the cold weather gets outside, you can keep your home feeling cozy and warm over the next three months with our toasty tips and tricks!

Tip 1: keep busy!

It is a well-known fact that keeping busy both mentally and physically is not only good for your health but helps you stay warm! Think of winter as a time to learn a new skill or take up a new hobby. It is the perfect time to pick up 2–3 pairs of knitting needles and stock up on an array of coloured wool balls and try your hand at making some scarves.

If knitting isn’t your thing, why not start practising yoga or try working out in the comfort of your own basement? Moving your body will not only help you stay warm but keep you looking and feeling your best—from head to toe.

Tip 2: make more home-cooked meals!

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions about becoming a better version of yourself in 2020? If so, we’re willing to bet that eating better is at the top of your list. If you ask us, there is no better excuse than that to cook all of your meals at home! On top of saving money, using your oven and stovetop burners will keep your home’s temperature up and your heating bill down. Cooking at home is a great way to discover new culinary delights and keep your home feeling toasty and warm!

Tip 3: infuse and boil your way to a warmer home!

Beating the summer heat with funky flavours of lemonade and refreshingly cold drinks is a hot-weather staple. It would be a shame for winter to get left out in the cold when it comes to showcasing some of its hottest cold-weather drinks! Winter is the perfect time to time try out a new blend of tea, add a little spice to your coffee or whip up a personalized hot chocolate for each member of the family.

The Internet is brimming with hot drink ideas that are guaranteed to warm you up this winter.

Tip 4: shake the dust out of your filters!

Even though winter has just begun, cleaning your furnace filter is a must! Your heating system has probably been on full blast ever since the cold weather hit, and a lot of dust has probably accumulated on your filter. Take advantage of a quiet day at home to vacuum off your filter and clean out the area around your furnace.

A clean heating system means a more comfortable home!

Tip 5: clean out your air vents

Now that your furnace and all of its accessories are sparkling clean, it’s time to take it a step further and clean out your heating and cooling vents.

Your feather duster will come in handy to ensure that your home radiates clean, continuous heat!

Tip 6: invite your loved ones over to eat!

The holidays may be over, but your social life goes on! Inviting your friends and family members over during the coming months will keep your home feeling warm and full of love. The heat radiating off of your oven and the extra warmth from all of your guests will make your home feel extra cozy!

Tip 7: take some time for yourself

The winter months are a great time to slow down and take some time for yourself. An evening soak in your favourite bubble bath or a eucalyptus-infused shower are two great ways to stay warm this winter. Invigorate both your body and mind as your stress dissolves into the steam-filled air!
