4 Safety Tips for Spring Driving

With the start of spring less than two weeks away, the air is getting warmer and the clocks have sprung forward, which can only mean one thing—that winter is on its last legs.

When the signs of spring start to appear and the weather gets warmer, drivers start to let their guard down. This season is a great time to brush up on your safe driving skills and remind yourself of the dangers that can occur on the road as the warmer months approach!

1 – Avoid driving through large puddles

Soggy spring roads are a sure sign that the snow is finally melting but can also be a good reminder to stay alert. Waterlogged streets can be dangerous and cause you to lose control.

Although they may look harmless, large puddles must be taken seriously when you’re behind the wheel.

Slow down when driving on roads with large amounts of standing water and keep your tires inflated to the correct air pressure.

2 – Be on the lookout for potholes

The arrival of spring marks that time of year when pesky potholes littering certain stretches of road rear their ugly heads.

Those that were hanging around last summer are likely still there, and the spring thaw has probably caused some new ones to pop up. Watch for potholes but keep your eyes glued to the road as the lanes ahead start to reappear!

Remember to drive carefully and avoid swerving to avoid potholes—it will only make things worse for you and the other drivers on the road!

You will also save money by not having to repair any pothole damage to your vehicle!

3 – Spring weather can be unpredictable

Ah, March! Although the warm spring air feels promising, you are not in the clear just yet. In fact, this seasons’ wild temperature swings and heavy rain are sure to keep you on your toes.

We recommend keeping your winter tires on even if the temperatures are milder. Don’t jump the gun with your summer tires just yet!

4 – Watch your speed, no matter what the weather!

Some drivers see the mercury climbing above zero as a sign to let the needle on their speedometer reach new heights.

Not so fast!

Good weather isn’t a green light to put the pedal to the metal. Keep your speed down as spring roads can be full of surprises. Avoid last-minute braking, focus on the road ahead of you and take things slow to avoid getting into an accident.
