Ultramar believes two-way communication and cooperation with community representatives creates relationships that serve to improve the way we do business.

Jean-Gaulin refinery liaison committee
The Jean-Gaulin refinery has prioritized the development of social ties based upon respect and trust by creating a liaison committee with the community. Concrete information on the company’s activities is accessible: potential risks surrounding the refinery, new projects, environmental impact, prevention and emergency measures….

Neighbourhood and organization representatives may also assess implications and ensure follow-ups. As well, committee members may:

  • discuss refinery activities
  • provide opinions and make recommendations about operations in progress and new projects
  • follow activity flow throughout the execution of projects
  • relay information to citizens and neighbourhood organizations
  • voice citizens’ concerns
  • make the committee’s presence known throughout the population

The liaison committee is made up of fourteen (14) members who represent various segments of the community, such as:

  • the immediate surrounding area of the refinery facilities (chemin des Îles and Saint-Laurent street)
  • the Saint-Laurent Street district enhancement group (near the dock)
  • social and economic organizations (CLD Lévis, UPA, Lévis Chamber of Commerce)
  • environmental groups (AQLPA, CRECA, GIRAM, ZIP Québec/Chaudière-Appalaches)
  • municipal and governmental sectors (city of Lévis, MENVIQ, Community Health Department)
