The refinery receives its crude oil from the oil fields via ships capable of carrying up to one million barrels. The refinery’s facilities are unique in that they have the only deep-water port on the Saint-Lawrence River allowing this type of operation.

In order to ensure safe navigation and manoeuvring related to these marine operations, Ultramar calls upon the lower St-Laurence docking pilots who have extensive experience in this regard.

In 1996, Ultramar acquired facilities that permitted unit train transportation of its finished products between the refinery and its Montreal East terminal. An innovative endeavour carried out in partnership with CN, it ensures reliable, fast, and safe transportation year-round.

Ultramar also employs conventional road and rail transportation methods. The tanker truck is the primary means of transportation for the most common products such as gasoline and distillates. However, rail tank cars permit the hauling of selected specialty products.
