Health, safety and environment remain our top priority.

We invite you to consult our policy to this effect.

  • From the refinery to the customer, Ultramar ensures the quality of its products and services.
  • The refinery’s ISO-9001 certification reassures all parties that Ultramar adheres at all times to the strictest operational standards, particularly in the areas of safety and the environment.
  • The company works diligently on developing fuels of the future that are increasingly clean and high performing.

We are especially proud of our Lévis/St-Romuald refinery on the south shore of the Saint-Lawrence River, facing Quebec City, because it is highly rated among North American refineries for its operational reliability, environmental output, and general performance. Between 2004 and 2006, we also completed two series of investments allowing us to produce gasoline with a low sulfur content, as well as ultra low sulphur diesel.

  • In the refinery’s control room, control instruments measure, record and modify temperatures, pressure and flow settings in each of the refinery’s units.
  • Laboratory technicians perform hundreds of analyses on crude oil and semi-finished and finished products.
  • At the refinery, a staff of 60 specially trained technicians with highly sophisticated equipment is on site to prevent any possible incident that might occur.
  • Beginning in the Escoumins region, each ship that carries crude oil to the refinery benefits from the services of a St-Lawrence River marine pilot to ensure safe passage through the river to the refinery dock.
  • The refinery is equipped with the necessary facilities and technology to foster environmental protection.

Believe in it:

The Canadian Petroleum Products Institute (CPPI), of which Ultramar is a member, has created a web site answering many questions on the refining and use of petroleum products, related to environmental concerns expressed by the public. We invite you to visit the site at:  http://www.believeinit.ca/
